NEWSFLASH! - 2015 OYB Umpires
APRIL 6, 2015 - OYB Umpires please register for this site and access the latest information. After you register please either click on the "OYB UMPIRES" tab at the top of the page. This tab is only visible to registered and logged in users.
This site is dedicated to those willing to stand behind the catcher at home plate and take the shots from flaming fast balls, as well as the the heckles from the fans watching the games. Everybody easily makes the right call from the dugout, the batter’s box, and from the stands, but it takes a special breed to be willing to make the right call from behind the plate while wearing an Umpire’s mask. Kudos to baseball Umpires everywhere!
“Come On Blue!” Since everyone thinks that the Umpire (Blue) has made a horrible call, this website is dedicated to better understand why the play was called the way that it was on the field. Most of the time the Umpires get the calls right, but there are always a few strange plays that leaves nobody walking away from the field after the game thinking that the Umpires got it right! So send along your scenarios and let’s discover what the rules actually state about the supposed botched plays/calls.
The one time you don't hustle, you'll get thrown out by a step.
OYB RULES UPDATE - 4/18/2014 - Due to some high scoring lopsided games, two rule modifications have been immediately implemented.
- OYB MERCY RUN PER INNING RULE - Previously we had an 8 run mercy inning rule for just the Rookie, A, and AAA divisions. We have now broadened that rule across all of the divisions including the AA, Majors, and 13-14. The rule reads as follows... "8 runs per half inning: After 8 runs score, teams exchange offense and defense. Only on an over the fence Home Run can more than 8 runs be scored. In the last inning the 8 run rule per inning does not apply for either team. Umpire will determine last inning." NOTE: This is NOT catch up to even the score and then score 8 more runs.
- 10 RUNS AFTER 4 - Previously we had a 10 run after 4 innings for the Rookies, A, AA, and AAA, and then a 10 run rule after 5 for the Majors and the 13-14 divisions. We have made it a 10 run after 4 innings for all OYB divisions. The rule now reads... "If the visiting team is leading by at least 10 runs after 4 or more complete innings, the game shall be declared complete and the visiting team shall be declared the winner. If the home team is leading by at least 10 runs after the visiting team has completed batting in the 4th or later, then the game shall be declared complete and the home team shall be declared the winner."
Kickball is a sport invented by soccer players who wanted to know what a home run felt like.
